The Municipality of Itogon in Benguet is enhancing its tourism program with the launching of Mt. Ulap Eco-trail on October 31 in Barangay Ampucao.
Michelle Idio of the Itogon Tourism Office on Monday said more than 500 individuals already registered for the climb which will start at 6 a.m. on Saturday.
Idio said early registrants are from Itogon and La Trinidad in Benguet and Baguio City.
Working on the theme “Experience the Breeze Dream. Explore. Discover,” Idio said registration is free of charge but may cost a hiker an event fee to include transportation; guide and tour fees, travel insurance and other incidentals.
Idio said it will take about five or six hours to reach the peak and back to the starting point at Sitio Tomtombek where a program awaits the participants.
Participants from Baguio City, La Trinidad and those from outside Itogon will have to start from Baguio City at 4 a.m. to be able to reach the site at 5 a.m. for the ribbon cutting and short program.
The after climb program will include a grand cañao (tayaw) with indigenous and traditional rites; and cultural presentations from the Kalanguya, Ibaloi and Kankana-ey ethnic groups.
The Itogon Tourism Office is reminding all participants and climbers to bring gears specifically for this experience like warm clothing, extra food, drinking water, first aid kit and medication, rain gear and binoculars or camera for personal use. (Philippine News Agency)
