The ceremonial lighting of the 50-foot Christmas tree towering over the Valenzuela City People’s Park was recently held to formally usher in the coming Christmas season in the city.
Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian and other government officials led the christmas tree lighting ceremonies.
Standing in the center of the Aerocircle, a the tree is decorated with clusters of artificial poinsettias, balls, stockings and ribbons.
The ceremonial lighting is anchored on the theme, “Maningning na Pasko ng Pamilyang Valenzuelano”.
Held late in November or early in December, lighting the tree has been a tradition in Valenzuela since 2004.
Every year, the christmas tree is dedicated to a particular group chosen by the city government.
Chosen groups in recent years include street sweepers, barangay health workers, feeding program volunteers. In 2013, the christmas tree was dedicated to people displaced by typhoon Yolanda.
