PALAWAN DESTINATION | Sheridan Beach Resort & Spa

Recently proclaimed as the “Best Island in the World” by Conde Nast Traveler’s 2016 Readers’ Choice Awards, the Island of Palawan offers the most breathtaking travel destinations in the Philippines. One of these remarkable Palawan destinations where a traveler should experience in his or her lifetime is Puerto Princesa’s Sheridan Beach Resort & Spa.

The name of this resort, “Sheridan,” is an old English word that means “bright” and “untamed”, capturing the essence of a recreational facility glistening from the rest of the world amidst untouched wild forests.

“Paradise” in the heart of Palawan
Strategically located along Sabang beach coast in Puerto Princesa City, Sheridan Beach Resort & Spa can be a traveler’s gateway to the all-wonder beauty of Palawan. The Island of Palawan is referred to as the Philippines’ “last biodiversity frontier” because of its preservation of more than 50 percent of its original forest cover while harboring vast stretches of the oldest forests in the country.

Sheridan’s beach recreation park is just a stone’s throw-away from Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park popularly known as Palawan’s Underground River, which was proclaimed as one of the “New 7 Wonders of Nature” by Swiss-based New7Wonders Foundation. About 100 million people globally participated in the New7Wonders campaign from 2007-2011 to create a list of seven natural wonders in the world.

Sheridan’s website read:

Known as the entry point to one of the new 7 Wonders of Nature, the Puerto Princesa Underground River, Sabang is a secluded beach located in the city of Puerto Princesa. A visually picturesque site, the beach is widely known not only for swimming and its fine-grained golden sand but for other activities as well. The dramatic sunset across the South China Sea is a must see. Further exploration of Sabang also unveils intricate caves, coral reefs, waterfalls and mangrove forest that travelers can appreciate and enjoy.

The Philippines’ first green resort
Sheridan Beach Resort & Spa boasts of its achievement as the first green resort in the country with its adherence to environmental sustainability business operations in one of Palawan’s most protected areas.

In 2014, the Bank of The Philippine Islands recognized Sheridan Beach Resort & Spa as the first ever green resort in the country “on its bid to promote sustainability through intelligent green efforts in its day to day operation” according to a Cebu Daily News report.

“Under the BPI Sustainable Energy Finance Program, Sheridan was built around the concept of environmental responsibility using energy-efficient materials and facilities that include solar panels, wind turbines, waste water treatment, rain water harvesting and heat recovery system,” the report said.

“World-class” services and facilities

This Pinoy Travel Blogger personally experienced that Sheridan is true to its “promise of providing exceptional and personalized services, first-rate facilities and deluxe amenities.” We felt the sincerity of the resort’s staff during our stay with their warm reception and cheerful assistance, surely one of the best if not the best we received from a resort in Palawan and the rest of the country.
